Fed Square
10th birthday
celebration
Where does the time go? This year
Melbourne’s much-loved Fed Square
turns ten years old – a celebratory
occasion that takes place on
the final weekend of Melbourne
Festival’s season.
It seems like only yesterday that Melburnians
were eyeing the new construction opposite
Flinders Street Station with suspicion, but the
city quickly embraced its new community and
cultural hub – and now, a decade later, it’s time
to celebrate our town’s vibrant centre in style.
To commemorate this milestone, Fed Square is
inviting everyone to a weekend of free activities
on 25–28 October. Incorporating a free family
concert and a big-screen movie marathon,
this will be a party to remember.
Fed Square is also staging a number of other
special activities, including free public tours of
the Square and workshops at ACMI, Kirra Gallery
and The Ian Potter Center: NGV Australia.
Also marking the occasion is the Australian
premiere of Stickwork, by American artist Patrick
Dougherty, who over the course of three weeks
will weave sticks into an extraordinary large-scale
sculpture situated at the heart of Fed Square.
