THE FAMOUS SPIEGELTENT
Christo Crocker
Jordie Lane
One of the finest young singersongwriters to come out of Melbourne
in recent years, Jordie Lane makes his
Festival debut in The Famous Spiegeltent
Jordie Lane has developed a brand of music
unique to Australia, one that has one foot firmly
planted in the traditions of candid countryfolk music, while the other foot steps across
boundaries, unafraid of contemporary themes.
For the Festival Jordie will perform both solo and
accompanied by some of Melbourne’s best-loved
musicians. With his distinctive finger-style guitar
picking, blues harmonica and a heart-breaking
voice, Jordie has been described as “a journey,
somewhere between Hank Williams and
Ryan Adams, somehow familiar and yet
wonderfully new”.
Blue Drag
with Chantal Mitvalsky
The timeless essence of 1930s Paris
comes alive as manouche outfit Blue
Drag is joined by vocal sensation
Chantal Mitvalsky for two irresistible
Festival concerts
Blue Drag’s evocative sound moves through
the film-like world of Django-inspired big band
arrangements and futuristic flavours. Lifted by
the sensual vocals of Mitvalsky, expect uptempo
hot jazz classics, gypsy sounds and cool grooves
mixed with a selection of lush original ballads.
Taking its name from the famous 1935 Django
Reinhardt tune, Blue Drag was formed by
multi-genre violinist Nigel MacLean in early 2000.
Recently the band released its second album, I’ll
See You There, featuring some of Melbourne’s
