Keith Saunders Chamber Music Australia Jerusalem Quartet Presented by Melbourne International Arts Festival in association with Chamber Music Australia Presented by Musica Viva in association with Melbourne International Arts Festival Chamber Music Australia (CMA) returns to Melbourne Festival with two concerts celebrating contemporary music. Combining forces with the acclaimed Schönberg Ensemble from Amsterdam, CMA has gathered a selection of Melbourne’s brightest musicians to present a remarkable and unique collaboration ‘Musical electricity may be unfathomable, but one thing is for sure – the Jerusalem Quartet has it.’ The Strad On Saturday 11 October, CMA presents a program devised by artistic director Marco van Pagee. Featuring works by M Feldman, Nigel Westlake and György Ligeti, professional and student musicians from the Victorian College of the Arts will work together as one. On Sunday 12 October, CMA is joined by members of the internationally renowned Schönberg Ensemble in a special intimate concert. Conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw and featuring soprano Barbara Hannigan, the combined ensemble of performers includes students from the Australian National Academy of Music. Australia’s Dean Newcomb leads the ensemble with Westlake’s Invocations for bass clarinet and chamber orchestra, while Louis Andriessen’s Dances and the Australian premiere of Mayke Nas’ To Hell! round out this exciting series at BMW Edge.
