Hayes is currently the senior manager of sales development at Buddy Media. She
works to bring in new business and ensure clients’ needs are met by collaborating
with the sales, product, marketing, and operations teams. A large part of her job
involves working internally within the company to plan launches and upgrades
months in advance.
A typical day for her might include creating a custom presentation, working with
sales collateral, or providing materials to the teams she works with. She loves the
ability to work with people in every department of the company. “I am basically an
internal liaison to make sure everyone has what they need to be successful. I learn a
lot because I touch people in every role and am consistently challenged,” she said.
Hayes credits her success to the array of skills she developed during her time in
the Professional Writing program, stating that she uses these skills every single
day at her current job. Her advice to Professional Writing students is to never
underestimate the power of networking, to go on as many informational interviews
as you can, and to not be afraid to be aggressive when it comes to getting a job you
want.
Before her recent move to Buddy
Media, Marissa worked at Condé Nast.
