RIP : Renowned Canadian Recording Engineer Donald C . Hahn
One of the most successful recording engineers to come out of Canada , Donald C . Hahn , passed away on Oct . 10 , 2020 . Throughout his career , Hahn recorded numerous classic songs with acts like The Band , Frank Sinatra , Ray Charles , Billy Joel , Willie Nelson , Whitney Houston , and many others .
Hahn ’ s early career led him to A & R Recording in New York City . Art Ward and Phil Ramone , the owners of A & R , were instrumental in encouraging him to reach his potential in the studio . One of Don ’ s first recordings was engineering The Band ’ s classic debut album , Music from Big Pink . He later became VP of A & M Studios in Los Angeles and continued to develop a track record for excellence in recording and producing . Anyone who grew up listening to music of the ‘ 60s
DONALD C . HAHN and onward will likely have heard Hahn ’ s work on radio , television , commercials , and in cinemas . Hahn is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart , TV host and published author of children ’ s books , Dianne Sebis Hahn ; their three children Dina , Darryl , and Derek ; as well as his grandchildren ; his sister Joyce ; and his extended family . Professional Sound shares its condolences with Hahn ’ s family , friends , and colleagues .

Genelec Commissions New Experience Center at U . S . Headquarters
Genelec has completed a new demonstration facility at the company ’ s North American headquarters in Natick , MA , where visitors can experience the full range of Genelec professional audio products in configurations from stereo through immersive 9.1.6 . The new Genelec Experience Center , the first in the U . S ., joins existing Genelec demonstration facilities in the U . K ., Germany , China , and India .
This latest Experience Center is a complete rebuild of a former surround sound demo studio designed in-house in 2004 , with Will Eggleston , Genelec ’ s U . S . marketing director , providing the acoustical design . He called on architect and designer Francis Manzella to create a new aesthetic and acoustical treatments for the renovated space , which serves as a mix room , a theatre , and a research and test centre for new hardware , software , and other products .

The professional audio industry is mourning the loss of long-time Shure executive Mark Brunner .
A former president of The Professional Audio Manufacturers Alliance ( PAMA ) from 2011-2013 , Brunner joined Shure in 1989 and during his tenure held several key

positions , including director of advertising and managing director of the Musical Instrument and Touring Sound business unit .
Most recently , he was the VP of global corporate and government relations , where he worked on numerous industry issues including the FCC rules for wireless device operation / frequency spectrum allocation and lobbied to protect the pro AV market sector . Additionally , he was a prominent member of The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing Manufacturers Council .
On behalf of PAMA , Greg Beebe , chair of the board of directors , says , “ Mark always had a remarkably positive attitude . He was a mentor , a sounding board , an advocate of best practices , a good friend and generous supporter to all who knew him . He was the voice of reason and truly made a difference . Our loss is shared by the entire music community , as he has left an indelible imprint on this industry .”
