Project Update
Over 160 Anolis LED luminaires were used to illuminate public and connecting areas of Les Bassins de Lumières , a former World War II U-boat bunker in Bordeaux , France . Four of the 11 vast submarine basin areas have been reimagined by Culturespaces to host immersive digital arts and mixed media installations . Nicolas Valette from lighting design practice 4eleven was asked to create a lighting scheme that highlighted the internal architecture of these 115-m long water-filled bays .
The walls , ceilings , and water are often used for giant projections of artists ’ work , so the internal lighting had to complement these and also function in a standalone context for visitors to see and appreciate the space and its story . For this , 20 Anolis ArcSource Outdoor 24MC RGBW fixtures are dedicated to lighting walls and 24 ArcSource Outdoor 16MC RGBWs with different lenses are deployed to graze up the concrete columns and highlight arches in the walking areas .

Joe Cole , the owner of Seattle , WA-based lighting rental company R90 , was one of the organizers of the Covert Bat Drive Thru Rave , a drivein EDM concert held in R90 ’ s shop in early July . Cole , LD Erik Mahowald from Bending Lite Productions , and programmer Christian Jackson designed the show .
Mahowald ’ s lighting design focused on filling three loading dock bays with flexible lighting . All the AVL components had to fit inside the bays so they could simply lift the shutters and begin the show . Fifteen Robe MegaPointes were deployed on the downstage edge of the stage in the central bay for an even spread across the loading dock area , with one more fixture far back inside each bay for backlight looks and silhouettes . Three lighting towers were also deployed – one in the centre of each bay , each rigged with nine Robe LEDBeam 150s and six additional fixtures , all controlled via a MA Lighting grandMA3 console .

Dutch production company Spectrum AV created a blank canvas studio with an ADJ lighting rig in its warehouse , which it is renting out to promotors to host virtual dance festivals during the COVID-19 pandemic . The Spectrum AV team deployed 12 ADJ Vizi Hybrid 16RXs above and beside the DJ on drop pipes . These are used to create aerial effects and gobo projections onto the floor and the black-draped walls . Additional beams are created by 16 Vizi Beam RXONE fixtures , which are deployed in sets of four .
“ The Vizi Hybrid 16RX is not a new fixture ; we ’ ve had it in stock since 2016 , but it can still compete with the newest models on the market . So not only does it have all the functionality we need , but it represents a great return on investment , as it can still generate revenue four years later ,” says GM Lex Willems .
After being delayed because of the pandemic , season 12 of NBC ’ s primetime series American Ninja Warrior headed back into production in July . Filmed at The Dome at America ’ s Center in St . Louis , MO , the broadcasts featured a nearly all-Elation lighting rig , which ran on a complete Obsidian Control Systems network .
An Obsidian NX4 console served as the main controller with a compact NX2 as a tracking backup with Netron EN12 and EN4 Ethernet-to-DMX gateways for data distribution . In addition , an interview area was under Onyx control using a laptop and a two-port dongle . Aspect Lighting provided Elation SixPar 100 IP and 300 IP LED par lights , SixBar 1000 IP LED battens , Cuepix 16 IP LED matrix panels , multi-functional Proteus Hybrid moving heads , Paladin LED effect lights , Platinum Beam 5R Extreme movers , and other fixtures .
