In 1970 at the tender age of 12 (twelve) years while still attending the all age school in my hometown
settlement of the bluff Cat Island, I was appointed a monitor after being successful in passing four (4)
BJC Subjects. While on this journey I have successfully completed (47) forty seven years from the
17th November 1997 to present.
Being an educator has been very rewarding for me. There are many things I like and enjoyed over the
years. As an educator the thing that I like the most is being able to make a positive change in the lives
of the future leaders of our great nation the Bahamas. It is my belief, if you touch the hearts of the
students entrusted in your care, you can change their lives. From 1980 after completing my teacher
training, I have taught Senior high school and Junior high school. My discipline is both in Technical
Drawing at the Junior High level and Graphical Communication at the Senior High level. From 1980 to
present I have been fortunate enough to have had hundreds of students who wrote and were
successful in passing exams in (BJC) Bahamas Junior Certificate and (BGCSE) Bahamas General
Certificate on Secondary Education.
Most memorable teaching moment was at H.O Nash Junior High when I was given a group of boys
whom no one at the time wanted. I saw potential in those boys and worked very hard to make sure
they succeeded. For three years I worked in preparing them to do the BGCSE in Graphical
Communication. All of the students were successful in passing the examination.
The word of encouragement that I leave with new teachers is to make sure that teaching is what you
want to do. You must do all within your power to reach every student. They all have talents and
abilities at different levels. We must do all that we can in helping them to achieve their goal and
aspirations. Remember every student can learn meet them where they are.
