Born the 8th of 10 children to the late H. Milton Nixon and M. Irene Nixon on the island of Eleuthera during the mid-1950s, a young Jean Nixon, exposed to the hardships poverty could yield, always had big dreams of a better future. Attending the Palmetto Point Primary School followed by both the Rock Sound High School and Governor’s Harbour High School, she excelled in both sports and academics, with high hopes of one day attending university to pursue a career as a doctor. She showed great promise toward fulfilling that future success and was awarded Head Girl of Governor’s Harbour High School where she met with the late Sir. Milo Butler, the 1st Governor General of The Bahamas, for this honor. In 1975, with reality in tow, young Jean, short on funds, migrated to the Capital city, Nassau to pursue a Certificate in Education with the then College of The Bahamas. She later attained a Teaching Certificate in 1980 and Public Service appointment in 1981, while teaching full-time at Yellow Elder Elementary School, getting married, and beginning a family. Her pursuit for knowledge never yielded, and a now Mrs. Rolle went on to obtain an Associate in Arts Degree in Education in 1983. This was followed by a Bachelor of Science Degree with a concentration in General Education from Nova Southeastern University in 1996, whilst teaching at C.I. Gibson Secondary School. She amassed numerous certificates and attended Ministry of Education workshops to remain current in an ever-changing Educational environment. Jean Rolle, has contributed greatly to the field of Education over the years in diverse ways and has taught at all levels in Education. She has assisted in marking and supervision of marking for both the Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC) and Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) in Social Sciences exams. Rolle has also held positions including Head of Department and Subject Coordinator for History for over 20 years at C.I. Gibson and C.H. Reeves Secondary Schools, collectively. Even at church, as a Methodist Member, Mrs. Rolle has had a hand as a Conference Representative responsible for setting and marking the exams for the Grade 3 Level Scripture Examination for the Sunday School Curriculum of Methodist Churches in The Caribbean & The Americas (MCCA) Bahamas, Turks & Caicos Islands Conference. She has also served as the Age Level Editor for children “5 years & Under” curriculum content at the MCCA District Level for the same Scripture Examinations. Mrs. Rolle assisted with BJC Social Studies volunteer-tutoring, youth organization “CHAMPS”, and served as Scripture Reader. She currently serves as Communion Steward and Usher at Rhodes’ Memorial Methodist Church.
