economic condition of the family
was very bad. Safdar’s mother was
an extraordinary woman. It was
her indomitable will and her
perseverance that took the family
through those difficult times. She
did her teacher’s training and came
to Delhi. She became the head of a
nursery school run by the NDMC.
During the time she worked as a
teacher and brought many
innovative changes at the pre
primary level and influenced
generations of teachers.
Safdar was a dreamer and a doer.
He was able to combine his
creative talents with organizing
abilities. Performing for the people
was not a ‘feel good’ action but a
process of engaging with ideas and
issues affecting the working
Every year on 1 January JANAM along with CITU asserts the solidarity of the workers
and artists. There is a cultural program and a public meeting. In the picture is the puppet
performance by children of a local school. This was a result of an intensive workshop
conducted by JANAM.
