CHOOSE HINGE
You’ll no doubt have heard of Lister Trade Frames. The Stoke-on-Trent based fabricator
seems to have picked up just about every UK industry award on offer in the last few years.
As
soon as Roto
released the DoorLine
Solid 150P door hinge,
Listers adopted it as
the standard hinge for
its entire range of residential doors and also
gave an insight into the
reasons for choosing
Roto.
Here are four facts that
no doubt also helped play
a part in that decision that
might help you decide that
Roto DoorLine Solid is the
hinge for you too.
All of these figures are
part of the assessment
of the hinge under the
European standard EN
1935:2002*.
1. Heavy duty classification. The hinge is
classified under ‘category of
use’ as being for heavy duty
applications. That’s the third
of four levels: the highest
is severe duty, which is for
doors used on high traffic
buildings such as shops.
The classification of the
Roto hinge as heavy duty
makes it more than suitable
for domestic use.
2. Durability. Grade
7 - the highest under this
standard, with the hinge
having undergone lifetime
testing for a total of 200,000
operation cycles.
3. Door mass 80 kg.
The DoorLine Solid 150P
is rated at Grade 4 under
the door mass section.
It means the hinges are
suitable for use on doors
of an overall mass up to
80 kg. That covers the
vast majority of standard
domestic doors in the UK,
be they made from PVC
or composite.
4. Corrosion resistance. There are four
levels for this category,
and the Roto hinge again
meets the highest - Grade
4. This level of resistance
to corrosion makes the
hinge suitable for external
use.

A Door To Meet Resistance Class 3
Achieving the requirements of the European standards
for burglar resistance is never easy.
However, the latest
test data from Germany
shows how Roto door
locks and handles have
helped a customer to
do it.
We’ve recently tested a
full-size door (1110mm x
2200mm) made from Trocal
PVC-Aluminium and fitted
with a Roto DoorSafe C500
multipoint lock, Roto strikers and handle.
The procedure has been
carried out to RC3 (Resist-
ance Class 3) of the standard EN 1627-1630:2011 for
burglary resistance – and the
door has passed the test.*
The DoorSafe C500 is
cylinder operated. This style
of lock, on which the key
is turned to engage all the
locking points, is becoming
increasingly popular in the
UK, because it can be used
on doors that don’t have a
lift-lever handle. This can
include modern doors with
a fixed pull bar, or period
style doors with a central
knob.
(The cylinder-operated
case is the same as the one
fitted to the new Roto Heritage door lock.)
Under this test, the door
has resisted the most severe
of the documented procedures. It involves the installation having to withstand a
three-minute manual attack
by a tester equipped with
four wedges and a 750mm
crowbar.

All German test centres are
now overseen by DAkkS,
which since 2010 has been
the single national accreditation body for manufacturers
in Germany.
The Roto Frank AG test
centre in Leinfelden, near
Stuttgart, is one of the largest in Europe and is fully
accredited by DAkkS for carrying out certified tests on
door and window products.
