Football fans swapped exhibition stands for the
footie pitch as the traditional FIT Show curtainraiser – the GQA all-comers 5-a-side tournament
- took place at the AFC Telford Goal-zone.

football lovers joined in for a
great evening of football and
camaraderie before the show
opened its doors. Four teams from
all walks of the industry enjoyed a
memorable evening playing three
games each to determine just
who would come out top of the
league.
The heavens opened about
an hour before kick-off but the
torrential rain didn’t dampen spirits
as the teams played at a frenetic
pace with all eyes on the prize of
the FIT Show Football Trophy.
Selecta Systems eventually
clinched the trophy, winning all
three closely fought games, while
a team made up of Quickslide
and GQA were runners up. Paul
Godwin, Managing Director of the
Fit Show, presented the awards
to the rain-drenched players in
the AFC Telford clubhouse, with a
word to the players to thank them
for getting involved. Paul also
asked them to watch out for news
of the event prior to the show
in 2017 as he was keen to grow
the pre-show competition and
challenged Selecta Systems to
enter again to defend the trophy.
Organiser Mick Clayton, CEO of
GQA Qualifications and Barnsley
Football Club fan, summarised
the night. “It was another great
evening, lots of fun, lots of good
football and a chance for people
from different parts of the industry
to come and enjoy one another’s
company and let off a bit of steam
before the serious business
begins. The evening is very much
about individual people coming
along and not having to be a part
of pre-arranged teams. They can
just turn up and play.”
“It is the third time we have run
it, and it gets better every time –
the rain adding to the experience.
A big thank you to all who took
part for their enthusiasm and the
spirit all the games were played
in, and a big thank you too to
AFC Telford for the use of their
facilities.
“We all know there is a lot going
on in the build-up to the show
itself - especially the pressure to
get stands completed - so it was
great to see so many turn up and
have a great evening.”
