The Lakesmere Group has won a prestigious
£13m contract to work on the redevelopment
of the former Press and Broadcast Centres for
the London 2012 Olympic Games to create one
of the most advanced digital hubs in Europe.

the existing infrastructure to
develop a world-leading creative and digital cluster for East
London.
Working alongside main contractor
Laing O’Rourke, Lakesmere will work
on the redevelopment of the existing
International Broadcast Centre and
will be responsible for the design,
manufacture and installation of
the building’s new unitised glazing
system that will feature a striking
decorative ‘dazzle’ frit pattern.
Lakesmere’s additional scope of
work includes the delivery of perforated aluminium rain-screen cladding,
polycarbonate cladding, mesh soffit
and fascia cladding, with the team
also undertaking the legacy works to
the former Media Press Centre and
Media Conference Room buildings.
The unitised glazing panels will
be manufactured and supplied by
Lakesmere’s sister company McMullen
Facades, with Lakesmere’s dedicated
Special Projects team undertaking
the design and installation. Lakesmere will also deliver various other
cladding elements, in addition to an
internal curtain walling system to the
building’s atrium, glass and polycarbonate roof lights, ventilation louvers
and several large ‘hangar’ door
screens.
As the roofing contractor responsible for the creation of the striking
roof of the London Aquatics Centre, Lakesmere has also worked on
a number of other projects on the
Olympic site including the Olympic
Park Energy Centre and the Media
Centre Building. Lakesmere is also
currently on site helping to transform
the existing Olympic Stadium, by
installing a new roof.

and rainwater components
have been on a 30 year replacement programme, however, this may be reviewed
going forward due to the
increased life expectancy of
new generation PVC products,” comments Ian Pollitt,
quantity surveyor for Broa-
dacres Housing Association.
“We also pick up prospective replacement jobs following stock condition surveys
carried out by our Technical Services team. In most
instances, the new roofline
and rainwater systems are
replacing existing PVC
products, but on this year’s
replacement programme
there are 13 properties with
timber fascias.”
Forming part of an annual
replacement programme,
191 properties were com-
pleted under phase one; a
further 161 will be upgraded during phase two which
began in October 2014
and will continue through
