Hiring A Spring
Cleaning Service
(continued from previous page)
says, to maximize the value of a
professional cleaning service:
• Pre-clean: Pick up and de-
clutter your home before the arrival
of your cleaning service. Put away
clothes and children’s toys. This
will free up more time for the
cleaning service to focus on deep
cleaning.
• Get an estimate: Ask for an
estimate of the cleaning costs in
advance. If the price sounds too
high, negotiate or look for another
service. If possible, arrange an in-
house estimate. It’s hard to give an
accurate estimate over the phone.
• Ask to see a checklist: Just
because your house smells clean
after the cleaning service leaves
doesn’t mean it is clean. Air
freshener goes a long way. Before
hiring any company, ask to see
a checklist of all the areas of
the home that will cleaned. Any
reputable company should have
one.
• Shop around: You don’t need to
hire the first cleaning service you
come across. Request quotes from
multiple companies to compare
prices. But make sure you also
factor the company’s experience
and reputation into the final
decision.
When it comes to yard
maintenance the same tips apply,
said Santiago Chavez of Santiago’s
Native Landscaping Services, a
locally owned company.
“We believe in building our good
reputation on every job we do,” he
said. “And with most landscaping
services, I would recommend you
find out ahead of time what they
are capable of doing. Make a list
of everything and then you can
determine if the price is right.”
Chavez also suggests getting
multiple bids and be sure to have
a standard list so that you are
comparing apples to apples.
“Spring is a good time to clear
out the yard,” he said. “In our
business, it gets busy as the weather
gets warmer. Don’t be afraid to start
now.”
Whether you are hiring a local
company or a national chain, check

any issues or complaints.
