Hiring A Spring Cleaning Service
B
efore vacuums were
invented, it seems people
found that spring was a
practical time to open windows
and air out the house, meanwhile
realizing dust had collected in every
nook and cranny.
Today, most people use the
term “spring cleaning” loosely to
describe any sort of deep cleaning,
no matter when it takes place. But
spring has sprung, so why not take
a look at what dust bunnies have
collected in your home and clear
out the debris left over from winter
in your back yards.
If you don’t have the time, energy
or desire to tackle a deep cleaning,
consider hiring a cleaning
service, or a group of
service people who
handle special tasks, such
as blind cleaners, duct

cleaning doesn’t mean the same
thing to every cleaning service.
Don’t ask for a spring cleaning
assuming the company will know
what you mean. Make a list of
specific tasks that need to be done.
For routine house cleaning, most
services charge about $15 to $30
per hour. Rates vary based upon
region of the country, the size of
your home and how dirty it is.
Often, cleaning services will set
a $50 or $75 minimum to make it
worth their while to take the job.
Prime Time magazine’s classified
section has several cleaning
professionals you may want to
contact. No matter who you choose,
however, make sure you are
comfortable talking with them, ask
if they are licensed or bonded, and
ask if they can accomplish all the
tasks on your list.
If you have an average-sized
home – say around 2,000 square
feet – budget anywhere from $80 to
$125 for a routine cleaning.
Deep cleaning or spring cleaning
is more expensive. In some cases,
you can end up paying double.
Most services also charge higher
rates for the first visit, assuming
that the home will require a deep
cleaning.
Consumers are always looking
for ways to get the most bang
for their buck, said Stephanie
Wheelock, who is a professional
cleaner for My House is Clean, an
Albuquerque business.
“I think being as up front
and honest as possible at the
beginning is key,” she said. “People
sometimes are embarrassed to ask
for the help, but they shouldn’t be.
Our business is here for a reason.
And believe it or not, especially
for me, many of us get great joy in
helping others in our own way.”
