WHAT YOU WILL STUDY
Throughout the course you will study nine different media forms : Television , Film , Radio , Newspapers , Magazines , Advertising , Online social and participatory media , Video games and Music video . Underpinning all this is a four-part framework : Media Language – how the media through their forms , codes , conventions and techniques communicate meanings Media Representations – how the media portray events , issues , individuals and social groups Media Industries – how the media industries ’ processes of production , distribution and circulation affect media forms and platforms Media Audiences – how media forms target , reach and address audiences ; how audiences interpret and respond to them ; and how members of audiences become producers themselves .
HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED
70 % examination 30 % coursework

PROGRESSION
University degrees in a range of media-related qualifications . These could include theoretical and practical production courses such as media and cultural studies , video and film production , advertising and marketing , scriptwriting and journalism .

Throughout the one year course you will complete nine units of work : Analysing Media Products and Audiences , Producing a Print Based Media Product , Planning and Pitching a Print Based Media Product , Producing An Audio-Visual Media Product , Planning and Pitching an Audio-Visual Media Product , Producing An Audio Media Product , Planning and Pitching an Audio Media Product , Photography For Media Products , Talk And Music Radio Production .
HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED
All units are internally assessed and moderated by a visiting moderator .
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE THIS COURSE

• you should enjoy analysis , discussion and practical work
• you should also enjoy creative work as you will be generating your own ideas for productions which you will then produce .
PROGRESSION
You can go on to take the Extended Diploma course in the second year , completing another nine units , which is the equivalent of three A-Levels . University degrees in a range of media related qualifications , including video and film production , advertising and marketing , scriptwriting and journalism . Apprenticeships or employment in the media industries .

Students will have the opportunity to work on the college radio station , Radio Wave . Students have also attended workshops in London with the BBFC and the BBC as well as a residential visit to New York .
