Professional Studies
You must love your job if you’re willing to commute more than 100 miles round trip
to be there. That’s what GMercyU’s Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional
Studies Mary Sortino, PsyD, does every day. Mary has been in the role of Dean of
GPS at GMercyU since 2014, and she commutes to our Gwynedd Valley campus five
days a week from her home in Delaware. With her extensive background in higher
education administration, she has proven herself a leader in the growth of the School
of Graduate and Professional Studies and thoroughly enjoys the challenge of creating
new programs and innovative delivery models to serve the needs of our students.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
With 20 years of experience in higher education administration, Mary has held a
diverse range of positions at multiple institutions including Wesley College, Cabrini
College, Rosemont College, and Delaware Technical and Community College. Prior
to her arrival at GMercyU, she served as the Director of Academic Affairs and Chief
Academic Officer at the Wilmington, Delaware Campus of the University of Phoenix,
where she was responsible for leading all academic functions.
Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from West Chester
University, and her master’s degree in clinical psychology, Masters in Health
Administration and PsyD from Widener University.
FAVORITE ACCOMPLISHMENT: FUN FACTS:
In the Sortino household, family
is everything. Mary lives with her
loving husband, Bill, her three
children, Kaz, Ryan, and Maya, and
her mother Mary Ann. It’s a full
house with 5 people (since Kaz is
away completing graduate school
at Shippensburg University), but
that’s the way Mary loves it. She
is incredibly proud of her family,
especially her three children who
are growing up to be successful and
well-rounded young adults. They
