32 REVIEWS Book Reviews OUTSTANDING GOOD PERFECTLY OK BUT NOT VERY EXCITING LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO SPEND TIME ON THIS BOOK SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN WRITTEN PRACTICAL CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY (Fourth Edition) Floyd H Barackman, Kregel Publications/Alban Books This is, in every sense, a big book. It is a very long, detailed and comprehensive examination of the great doctrines of the faith and yet the author states in his preface that he does not offer it as ‘being complete or final’. A more complete or final edition I would be surprised to see. The book examines twelve different doctrines: the Bible, the Doctrine of God, the Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Angels, Man, Sin, Salvation, Christian Life, Christian Church and Future Prophetic Events. Barackman’s theology is based on the conviction that the Bible is the divinely given, inerrant Word of God and that in order for any reader to understand the Bible’s truth, he or she has to stand in a right relationship with God and be taught by the Holy Spirit. The wonderful thing about this book is that, despite its weightiness, it will appeal just as much to the lay reader as the academic student. Open it at any page and you are immediately immersed in interesting and relevant details of different aspects of our faith. This book should be required reading for all Christians as it addresses all that is fundamental to our beliefs and the application of those beliefs to everyday life.
