Practicing in Pennsylvania: A Guide for the New Dentist March 2016 | Page 54

A state dental association is a voluntary organization that offers benefits and services to members. A state dental board is a government agency that regulates professional and occupational licenses. Whichever state(s) you practice in, you are legally required to maintain an active dental license issued by that state’s dental licensing board.

7. What is the difference between a state dental association and a state dental board?

49 PA Code, Section 33.203(b) states that advertising that is false, misleading or deceptive is prohibited. False advertisement includes claiming membership in any association of which you are not a current member.

In addition, if any advertisement contains information regarding fees or free services, the dentist must not increase said fees for a minimum period of sixty (60) days following the final publication/broadcast of the advertisement (unless advertisement specifically and conspicuously states that the advertised fees or free services would be available for a shorter period of time).

For additional information, please refer to 49 PA Code, Section 33.203.

8. Do the advertisements/marketing efforts for my practice comply with state law?

9. How do I register my business with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue?

Complete the Pennsylvania Enterprise Registration Form — PA-100 to register your business with the department. To obtain a copy of this form or for more information, contact the department at (717) 772-2340 or visit www.revenue.pa.gov.
