Child Abuse Recognition & Reporting CE Requirements

Effective December 31, 2014, Act 31 mandates that any current licensees of health-related boards in Pennsylvania must complete two (2) hours of continuing education in child abuse recognition and reporting for each licensure renewal period. In order to receive credit, each licensee must take a course that is approved by both the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry (PA SBOD).

If a dentist is applying for initial licensure in Pennsylvania, s/he is required to take an approved three (3) hour course.

If a dentist has a current license and is applying for a license renewal in Pennsylvania, s/he is required to take an approved two (2) hour course.

In response to Act 31, PDA developed “Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting for Dental Professionals,” which was the only course offered that was custom-designed specifically for dental professionals. For the 2015 relicensure period, PDA trained over 5,123 dentists, hygienists, EFDAs and dental office staff in child abuse recognition and reporting. Members and their staff were able to take the course at a discounted rate. PDA will continue to offer this approved course. Please check Child Abuse CE and the online CE calendar for upcoming dates and more information.
