Marcella Nardi checked in with The Connector on her way to Rome. She was headed to her native Italy to accept yet another award for her writing.

Nardi is the winner of a literary contest sponsored by a major Italian publishers’ organization, just the latest in a string of accomplishments for the technology entrepreneur-turned-author.

“Of those I consider big, this is the third,” she said. “Then I have three or four that are smaller, that were issued by smaller groups.” She has also had short stories in four Italian anthologies. This contest was open to stories and poems of any type, with the theme: “My Italy.”

Marcella said she based her entry on a possibly true 13th-century story of romance and murder, akin to Romeo and Juliet, and mentioned in a poem by Dante Alighieri.

A passionate reader all her life, and a writer as a child, she did not take up writing as an adult until 2006, following on the death of her father.

“Something exploded in me and I started again to write,” she says. “And since then, I didn’t quit.”
