The EDGE Virtual Program 100 H.H. Robison Drive, Wetumpka, AL • (334) 514-3931 • www.elmoreco.com/virtual About: Launched in the 2018-2019 school year, Elmore County's Diverse Gateway to Education (EDGE) encompasses 21st century, SACS accredited education with the primary goal of empowering students with tools for success. EDGE is a free virtual program available for students in grades 6-12 living in El- more, Autauga, and Montgomery counties. EDGE students learn at home, with diverse options including live tutors and schedule flexibility. At EDGE, we see each student’s potential to make the world a better place. It is our goal to help them see it, believe it, and achieve it! Why choose virtual? Virtual learning gives students, and their parents, another option when it comes to proceeding with their education. Education is changing, and Elmore is on the cutting edge of leading the way in this endeavor! Because of the schedule flexibility provided by our virtual program, students may complete their required high school credits early, allowing them to progress to postsecondary education or enter the work- force sooner than a traditional high school schedule would allow. Class Size: Classes are virtually one-on-one, which ensures that your student receives individualized attention. Athletics and Extracurricular Activities: Students enrolled in Elmore County’s virtual program have opportunities to partic- ipate in athletics, cheer, dance, band, etc. Additional options for electives and career tech courses, as well as gateways to technical certifications and college credits, are available. Expectations: Students enrolled in EDGE are expected to work independently to complete required coursework utilizing Edgenuity and/or ACCESS Distance Learning curriculum. Stu- dent support services include online and face-to-face orientation for online learning preparation; academic advising to include the development of a 4-year high school plan; tracking of student attendance, course progression, grades, and exam proctoring; and administration of state-mandated tests to all students (e.g., ACT, Pre-ACT, etc). Testing and Other Info: All final, end of course tests must be taken at a centralized learning site or base school, and will be facilitated by Elmore County staff. Students are not required to come in on a weekly/monthly basis, unless they opt for tutor- ing services provided by certified teachers or fall behind with their coursework. Students who meet graduation requirements through EDGE can earn a standard Alabama High School Diploma. We do offer Advanced Placement courses, which meet the standards of the College Board’s AP curriculum.
