About: The Montgomery Academy is a nonsectarian K-12
school serving the River Region since 1959 whose mission is
to develop leaders committed to “honor, scholarship, service
and the pursuit of excellence.” These values are central to the
curriculum and evident in the supportive environment at The
Montgomery Academy.
Class Size: The average class size is around 15 students. At
MA’s Lower School (grades K-4) there is an extra teacher known
as the Instructional Coach who works regularly with the students
in each classroom.
Career-based Programs: MA’s program is designed to
prepare students both academically and socially for life after high
school with numerous technology courses, engineering courses,
and classes such as Interpersonal Relations that teach leadership
and community service skills.
Athletics: MA has earned 65 state championships, more
than any other public or private school in the River Region.
Numerous sports opportunities are available for males and
females with over 70% of students participating in one of MA’s
athletic teams. Teams include baseball, basketball, cross-country,
football, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, cheerleading, softball
and volleyball. Many Academy athletes go on to compete at the
collegiate level. Coaches and the Athletic Director work closely
with student athletes and the NCAA to ensure that all athletic
and academic requirements are met.
Music/Fine Arts: Appreciation of the arts begins early at
the Academy. Weekly exposure to art and music classes begins in
kindergarten and continues throughout the students’ academic
career. Courses in theater, music, and visual arts are offered in
middle and upper levels, and students are allowed opportunities
to perform on stage and at various venues. MA’s choral groups
have been recognized nationwide, and the speech and debate
team is ranked in the top 1% in the nation, winning the state
championship more than any other school in Alabama.
Academics: Montgomery Academy prepares students to
succeed in the most selective colleges and universities. Over 28
Advanced Placement and Honors courses are offered to students,
and the vast majority of AP students score a 3 or above on AP
exams, qualifying them for college credit. In the fall of 2016, 46
students were recognized as Advanced Placement Scholars based
on their test scores. The Kaplan ACT study course is also
available after-school and on the weekends for a fee.

based aid. 86% of the Class of 2016 earned over $9 million in
merit based aid. In addition, the Dean of Students, Upper School
Director, and Guidance Counselor work to insure
