her story
Melanie appreciates the importance and value of being
involved in extracurricular activities, sharing, “My advice to
those entering high school would be to get involved, whether
that be sports, clubs, SGA, etc.” At PCA, she is a member of a
variety of organizations, from the swim and basketball teams
to Rotary Club and the Spanish Honor Society. Her leadership
skills are strong and evident- she is the president of PCA’s
National Honor Society, and was chosen to be a part of the Ala-
bama Lions High School Leadership Forum. Outside of school,
she is an active member of Centerpoint Fellowship Church.
When asked to share the best advice she had ever received,
Melanie answered with a quote from Priscilla Shirer: “Live for
the applause of heaven, not others.”
what’s next
“I want to go into nursing and become a travelling nurse at
first, and then a nurse anesthetist.” She explains, "My interest in
nursing sparked when I was in kindergarten and was hospital-
ized for a week for asthma problems and a virus; during that
time frame, I was interested in the roles the nurses had.”

Melanie shares, “I am most proud of my family because we al-
ways know who we are. They have taught me to always put God
first, and then others. We also love family time, and I think
that is important, especially nowadays since social media and
electronics are taking so much time away from family.”
parents’ perspective
Tom and Diana admire Melanie’s humble attitude and genuine
kindness towards others. They are also proud of “her will to succeed
in everything she does, her intelligence, and her athleticism.”
parent-to-parent
Diana urges other parents to love and encourage their
own children, as well as being “supportive in all they do.”
