Coach Schweers Recognized with Proclamation
Assistant Athletic Director Jessica Lassiter , Athletic Director Harold Hilliard , Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach Jack Schweers , Head of School Kerry Palmer Congratulations to Coach Jack Schweers who was recently presented with a Proclamation by the Board of Trustees , recognizing his 400th win and his 24 years of being the Head Coach of Trinity Boys Basketball .
Jack Schweers , a native of Mount Pleasant , South Carolina was a 4-sport star who went on to play college basketball at the College of Charleston . He is now in his 42nd season as a basketball coach … but more importantly , a molder of young men . Schweers , a former college Assistant at Georgia Southern and Auburn University at Montgomery , helped guide the AUM Senators to a 32-3 NAIA National Runner-Up finish . He was a part of nearly 300 wins as a college assistant under Larry Chapman .
Under the direction of “ Captain Jack ,” his teams have made 8 Regional appearances , 7 Elite Eight appearances , 2 Final Four births , and 1 State Championship — the dream team of 1999 , who went 31-1 . Schweers was named the ASWA Super All-State Coach of the Year for the 1998-99 season . He was selected to coach in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game that same year . He has won 400 career games in his time at Trinity and has coached in over 1,170 games during his 42-year career .
PCA Student Selected for Prestigious Journalism Conference
Ethan Morris , a Prattville Christian Academy junior , has been selected to represent Prattville , Alabama as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2018 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University .
Morris joins a select group of students from all over the country for an intensive study of journalism and media . Morris was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies . National Youth Correspondents participate in hands-on , experiential learning through decision-making simulations that challenge them to solve problems and explore the creative , practical , and ethical tensions inherent in journalism and media . Past speakers have included Hoda Kotb from NBC , Brian Lamb from C-SPAN , Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Carol Guzy , and Sonya Ross from the Associated Press .
Montgomery Catholic Students Win Scholarship
Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School is proud to announce that two students have received scholarships from The Gathering of the Eagles Foundation for their interest in science , math and technology !
Senior Lizzie Londell and eighth grade student Cody Harris , two of just 25 students in Montgomery who received scholarships on January 10 from the GOE-Foundation , and the National Flight Academy at Montgomery ’ s City Hall .
The Gathering of Eagles Foundation is a private , non-profit organization that aims to preserve the United State Air Force ’ s legacy through the celebration of 70 years of Airpower . The GOE Foundation exists to provide financial support to enhance Air Command and Staff College ’ s Gathering of Eagles program , an annual educational event geared to allow the ACSC student body to learn from and honor men and women who have made significant contributions to air , space and cyberspace power . For over 30 years , Eagles have shared their stories with ACSC in an effort to inspire today ’ s military leaders to achieve greatness in support of their country .
Londell and Harris were selected to attend a “ cruise ” at the National Flight Academy in Pensecola , Florida February 17-19 . The scholarship includes tuition , lodging , food , and transportation . Students are chosen from a pool of essay applicants from around the Montgomery area . The experience will include three days of Science , Technology , Engineering , and Math ( STEM ) focused education and fun . Both Londell and Harris will attend the “ Codebreakers ” program .
