Luke Edward Ferrell Named Churchill Academy Valedictorian
Churchill Academy is proud to announce that Luke Edward Ferrell has been selected as 2016-2017 Valedictorian . He is a very outgoing and outspoken young man who loves all things 1980 . Luke is a very talented guitar player and loves to perform for the students at Churchill . He is also a faithful member of the Eastern Meadows Church of Christ and is active in their youth program . Luke has been a member of Lads to Leaders since 2012 and received a scholarship from that organization this year , as well as a Church of Christ Member Scholarship and a Trustees scholarship due to his exceptional ACT score . His mother was a graduate of Faulkner University and therefore Luke received an alumni scholarship .
He plans to attend Faulkner for two years to accomplish his prerequisites and then transfer to University of Alabama-Huntsville to major in meteorology . His goal is to become a broadcast meteorologist for WSFA-TV . Finally , Luke was elected president of the student body and recently was a page for House District 74 Representative Dimitri Polizos . Churchill will miss Luke very much but we are excited to see where his journey takes him . Congratulations Luke !
ECA Student Selected as Delegate
Skylar Brooks , a sophomore at Evangel Christian Academy , has been selected to represent the State of Alabama at the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders to be held June 29 - July 1 in Boston .
The Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders is a highly selective national program honoring academically superior high school students dedicated to careers in science , technology , engineering , or math ( STEM ).
Skylar is being recognized for her outstanding grades , leadership , and desire to contribute to the field of science and technology . Skylar has also received invitations to attend Vanderbilt University ‘ s “ Black and Gold Days ” as well as Auburn University ’ s War Eagle Day .
Tallassee High Students Nominated for Joe Sewel Memorial Award
The Joe Sewell Award is named after one of Elmore County ’ s professional athletes who displayed leadership and Christian character both on the field and in his community of Titus , Joe Sewell . The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding high school senior athletes who have consistently represented the highest ideals of Christian leadership and emulate the character of Joe Sewell . Each participating school in Elmore County can nominate 4 students from their school . Tallassee High School recognizes Jake Baker , Laura Ann Parker , Brady Hancock and Karson Sanford as their nominees for the 2017 Joe Sewell Memorial Awards . These students are evaluated on the criteria of excellence in athletics , academics , leadership , and church , community and character . Tallassee City Schools congratulates these four outstanding students .
