Breaking Down the SAT
But wait, I’m taking the ACT....
No Problem, but the SAT might bring your score up (yes all the schools
take it)! If you have stronger verbal and reading skills, you will probably
score higher. Best of all? No science section!
The test is broken down into two sections, each made up of three tests
(the Math Section is divided into two parts.) We’re here to give you the
lowdown on the SAT breakdown!
Reading
The SAT Reading section accounts for
50% of your total SAT score- that’s pretty
significant!
TIP: Aim to spend about 13 minutes on
each passage. This will prevent you from
spending way too much time on one pas-
sage and scrambling to bubble in random
answers when time is up (though there is
no penalty for guessing, you’ll probably
still want to have some time to make sure
your guesses are educated ones)!

Writing and
Language
The Writing and Language Test requires
you to analyze a single sentence or
passage, or interpret data from an info-
graphic.
TIP: Don’t worry if you get a passage
on Tibetan throat singing and you aren’t
sure where Tibet is or how people sing
with their throats! You will not be tested
on your knowledge of the subject matter-
only on the grammar and vocabulary.
