“Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Just set a goal, and stop at
nothing to achieve it.”
her story
Laura is a pro when it comes to leadership- she has held vari-
ous positions in Tallassee High School’s Student Council since
her freshman year. In addition, she has been in several leader-
ship roles in her school’s band, including that of head major-
ette. Laura is active in the arts scene at Tallassee High School,
and is involved with show choir, concert band, and the drama
department. When asked what inspires her, she answered, “I
am inspired by what a person’s willpower can accomplish. Last
year, my dad had a stroke and had to relearn how to walk and
talk. It was very hard for him, but because of his determination,
he accomplished so much in such a short period of time. I have
never seen anyone overcome so much.”
what’s next
Laura has big plans for the future. She shares, “I am going to at-
tend and graduate from Auburn University. While there, I plan
to get a nursing degree and become a registered nurse. I have
always loved being there for others, and I believe by becoming
a nurse I can continue what I truly love.”

“My family always makes time for each other, no matter how
busy we get. Especially if we have all had a busy week, we make
plans to go shopping or get supper together, just so that we can
spend quality time together. It has taught me how to prioritize
my life, and how to make time for people, not just activities.”

parents’ perspective
“As Laura’s parents, we are very proud of Laura’s compassion and
understanding of other people. Laura has always set goals for herself,
but in doing so, she never gets so wrapped up in her own life that she
can’t be there for her friends, family, and others.”
parent-to-parent
Linda and Brad believe that the best thing parents can do
is be there for their children. Linda adds, “Conversation
with your child about everything is vital, and it must
be a two-way conversation with lots of listening on the
parent’s part, so that we fully understand.”
