ACA Drumline Drumming for a Good Cause This past Saturday, January 9, 2016, the Alabama Christian Academy Marching Eagle Drumline and the Pit-Percussion Ensemble got the chance to be a part of the Extra Mile and 10K race sponsored by Hope Inspired Ministries. The event was held in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. The Drumline and Percussion group played multiple cadences for runners to enjoy and even motivate them to do their best. There were over 250 runners in this event, ranging anywhere from small children to older adults to dogs! It was an over-all fun and beneficial time for both participants and sponsors. Hope Inspired Ministries is a local, non-profit organization dedicated to teaching, preparing and guiding men and women in the correct area of employment for them. They focus on low skilled, poorly educated, and chronically unemployed men and women from all over the city of Montgomery. An excerpt from the mission statement on their website states, “We do so in a manner that develops individual worth, encourages personal responsibility, and promotes the value and honor of work. We introduce a way of life that promotes the development of the emotional, physical, and spiritual maturity in each student.” The race was held to raise awareness and provide information about their mission, all while putting on a fun time for anyone interested in the event. Edgewood Academy Students Visit Washington, D.C. Hope Inspired Ministries has changed many people’s lives for years, as was shown at the event. A former drug addict who went through the HIM program was at the event on Saturday. There, she shared her testimony about how the organization practically saved her life and now she is back on her feet and is in school to become a nurse. It was a truly inspiring story, which brought many people to tears. The event was a complete success and a very fun experience for the ACA Band students who attended. Recently the seventh and eighth grade students of Edgewood Academy visited Washington D.C. on a three day field trip. While in D.C., the students visited many famous memorials including the World War II Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Pentagon Memorial, the Vietnam Wall Memorial and many more. A few of the students laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington. Other stops on their itinerary were the Library of Congress, Mt. Vernon, the National Archives, Ford’s Theater, the Smithsonian Museum of American and Natural History, the White House, and the Capital where the students met with representative Martha Roby. Thousands of students visit Washington D.C. each year and the students of Edgewood Academy feel extremely fortunate to have been allowed this experience. EA Director of Secondary Education, Susan Montgomery, said, “History becomes real when you are able to visit and see it and put it on a personal level. The students were able to learn more than they ever could from a text book.” ABOVE: Edgewood 7th & 8th Grade Students 17 Inductees to Mu Alpha Theta The Macon East Academy chapter of Mu Alpha Theta National High School and Two Year College Mathematics Honor Society inducted 18 new members at a ceremony held December 9.
