her story
From the age of six, Leanne has known that the medical field
is the place for her. Her mother had a stroke while picking her
up from karate class, and Leanne was inspired by the medi-
cal team. She shares, “I realized there are those who do not
have quickly accessible healthcare, especially in third world
countries. As a result of this experience, I am a health rights
advocate.” At the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science,
Leanne is the president of Health Occupants of the Students of
America, and founder of Heroes of Health, a club she started to
fundraise for those in third world countries to get better access
to healthcare.
Leanne is a member of several honor societies, and has
received numerous awards at both local and national science
fairs. She is also a member of the soccer team, and has been
playing piano since the age of three. “Being involved in extra-
curriculars is a way for me to meet and socialize with people
who share the same interests I have,” she explains.
