Ask Allison:
Hey Allison, how can I create the best study
space for a great school year?
Staying organized is key, especially when you’ll be studying in
your bedroom. In order to best utilize those precious square
inches and make your space functional, you’ll need to get cre-
ative! We have some great tips to help you maximize your space
without sacrificing your style.
First, start with a desk.
Try going with an elegant desk with metallic legs. The great
thing about metallic is it acts as a neutral and goes with any color
accent. You don’t want anything too bold or large; oversized
furniture can make a room feel cramped. Strategically placed
mirrors on the wall are a great way to create the illusion of a
larger room, plus accent mirrors come in endless styles and will
add a pop of personality into any space.
Tips:
> Use magazine holders for textbooks and binders!
> For additional storage, use vertical cubic shelves.
> Enhance
baskets. the space by adding functional accessories such
as
or a small plant in one of the cubes to
> Place
pictures
brighten
up your study space.
Now, sit back and enjoy your newly
organized and stylish study space!

Keep your space as uncluttered and as
functional as possible.
Messy workspaces typically contribute to the feeling of being
overwhelmed-not exactly what you want when you’re getting
ready for a big test! Gather organizational items that make you
happy and fill them with everything you need
to be successful at school.

Where to shop:
Find these great items and
more at the At Home Store.
Keep things clean.
Go through your notebooks and bags at the end of the week
and trash whatever you no longer need.
Get comfy, but not too comfy!
Create a comfortable work space, but avoid making yourself so
relaxed that you’re tempted to nap instead!
Take breaks.
Get up and stretch and move around every half hour or so.
A lot of students love the freedom and “free time”
in college, but it’s not really spare time; it’s just
unstructured time with no moms or teachers to
keep you shuffling from task to class. It might
be easy to procrastinate and lose track, so start
learning your limits and getting in the habit of
scheduling your time (including the fun stuff!)
now!
