RESEARCH INSTITUTES | 75 We o­ffer high-quality supervision with international experts, a varied external and internal seminar programme alongside dynamic training programmes and dedicated workshops covering reviewing, epidemiology, trials, social science and prognosis research. Our flourishing MPhil/PhD programme, provide our students with a supportive peer group and access to a range of resources; with our well-established research programmes, we focus on: • Musculoskeletal Pain • Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis • Inflammatory Arthritis • Mental Health • Prognosis research As a student, you will receive structured supervision from at least two supervisors and we are proud to say our completion rates are excellent. Our methodological strengths in prognosis, biostatistics, consultation epidemiology and qualitative research methods that are provide by us; supported through our memberships that include: • The NIHR National School of Primary Care Research – which expands the research portfolio through collaborations with the other ‘National School departments’. • The NIHR Collaborations for Applied Health Research and Care West Midlands (CLAHRC WM). • Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre. Our continuous aim is to deliver UK leading, high quality research, specifically designed to improve the content, provision and formation of primary care for the benefit of patients with long-term conditions. In doing so we strive to evoke knowledge, expertise and core skills to our students, to lead with once they have departed from Keele. Making a difference • Current research grants awarded to the Centre total over £36 Million from major UK research bodies (including NIHR, HTA and Arthritis Research UK). • Held the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Pioneering the early prevention and treatment of chronic pain. • 91% of primary care research has been judged as world leading or internationally excellent by the Universities UK Research Excellence Framework (REF). • The Institute holds an Athena Swan Silver award Recent grants include: Our model for postgraduate training, alongside our strong track record in gaining NIHR research grants, underpins our success in gaining additional NIHR Clinical Academic Fellowships and Lectureship posts in open NIHR competition. This reflects our expertise in developing research-training schemes that are embedded in our prestigious funded programmes of research, and which are complementary to clinical training pathways.
