Art is a key component to our work, says Jenny Provost, ASID, assoc. AIA. It provides the color and movement that keeps at bay the sometimes sterile nature of a modern-leaning interior. Walls in this house are treated to some of the best art to be found in Latin America and drives the design throughout. A table for eight and seemingly endless buffet were purpose built from hardwoods with polished stainless steel bases from El Salvador. Domestic custom upholstered seating softens the room and sets the table for “lingering longer” at dinner parties. Open kitchen concepts are ideal for family homes but must fully in- tegrate into the adjacent living spaces. e use of mahogany beams and window frames speaks to the tropical nature of the design while the high gloss lacquered kitchen in two colors is decidedly modern. A walk-in pantry is accessed through the large lacquered panel on the right allowing the kitchen to have continuity without the interruption of a standard interior door. PORTFOLIO MAGAZINE 63
