cial focus on locally sourced ingredients. His restaurant Eleven Madison Park was just awarded the number one restaurant in the world by San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants. Though being the number one restaurant in the world may not be on Chef David’s top priorities, being number one in Naples sure is. Entering the local Naples restaurant scene alongside a stunning group of fine places to dine will be no small chal- lenge, but for both Chef David and Matthew Kragh they will be entering the local scene prepared. Being that you are dining in his home, of sorts, the Timeless menu also features personal touches from Matthew’s family including, a farm-fresh salad called Trista Sue Caprese, a pizza called e Maverick, and Shiloh’s Coal Fired Bagels–all named after Matthew’s wife and children. Matthew Kragh laughs good-na- turedly when his clients ask him why would an architect open a restaurant. “I’ve been asked this question a thousand times. I think people have a hard time seeing the connection between the busi- ness side of architecture and the living side of architecture. ese homes we build are to be lived in, entertained in, and dined in. It’s a way of designing a space that emulates my homes for my clients, my friends, and my community. It’s personal.” e concept behind Time- less Restaurant is not just as simple as an architect starting a restaurant as a hobby. It is an architect opening up his world to the public by instantly transporting them into the MHK architectural experience. It’s a creative idea that gives life to the MHK story, and continues Matthew Kragh’s architectural legacy. And that is truly timeless. MHK is currently publishing a coffee table book of his works that will be for sale in his restaurant this fall. PORTFOLIO MAGAZINE 57
