Dave Schwartz is Coordinator of the Gaming Studies Research Center at the Uni
versity of Nevada Las Vegas.. Bom in Atlantic City, NJ, Schwartz has made the
casino gaming industry his primary academic focus. As coordinator, Schwartz
maintains the Gaming Collection, the world’s largest collection of books and jour
nals about gambling; fields reference questions from media, industry, and aca
demic researchers; and maintains the university’s gaming studies portal, http://
gaming.unlv.edu. His publications include Suburban Xanadu: The Casino Resort
on the Las Vegas Strip and Beyond (New York: Routledge, 2003) and“A Fun Night
