CALL for PAPERS
The Mid-Atlantic Almanack, the annual refereed journal of the
Mid-'Atlantic Popular Culture/American Culture Association,
seeks papers on all topics
Topics may be on any area of popular cufture and/or American culture. Two kinds of
articles are especially welcome:
(1) new historical research on cultural events or practices;
or,
li
(2) original connections between separate theoretical perspectives on
contemporarytopics.
Because the Alm anack has an interdisciplinary readership, please avoid narrowly
focused close readings of single works (whether books, films, or T V shows) and
excessive use of jargon (more than five or six terms not yet to be found in a college
dictionary)..
Articles must pass a review by the Editor or Senior Editor, followed by blind-review
by two readers with expertise in the article’s topic.
Submit three clear copies. Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout, in
cluding indented quotations, notes, and bibliography. Use an intertextual (paren
thetical) format for citations; MLA style is preferred. The text of articles should not
exceed 20 pages (or approximately 5,000 words). The author’s name, affiliation,
and address should appear only on a detachable title page of the master copy. A
cover letter should include full contact information, assurance that the manuscript
is not under consideration or published elsewhere, and a 75-word bio. Include a
self-addressed, stamped postcard for acknowledgment. Manuscripts will not be
returned unless return postage is included.
The A/manac/f welcomes illustrations, but the author must obtain permissions for
publication of any copyrighted images. Authors should have secured, or should be
actively seeking, permissions before the blind-review process. Please do not send
originals of illustrations until the article has been formally accepted.
Authors are expected to become members of the Mid-Atlantic Popular Culture/
American Culture Association in the year that their article is published ($65/regular;
$45/student/unemployed/retired). Authors will receive two copies of the volume.
Authors are free to query the editor about whether a topic or approach is likely to
fall under the auspices of the journars mandate. (Phone 315-536-0571, or write to
the address below.)
