Last year , the Dallas Business
Journal recognized two significant Arlington projects for its 2015 Best Real Estate Deals of the Year . The Community Impact Deal of the Year was given to the General Motors Arlington Assembly Plant for its $ 1.4 billion expansion , one of the largest investments in company history . Arlington Commons was named the Best Suburban Multifamily Deal . In 2016 , the Nehemiah Company broke ground on the 1,328-unit project , which will add $ 200 million to the property tax rolls when finished .
The FY2015 PAFR was recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association with the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting . The document was singled out for its professional design and understandability .
The City ’ s Office of Communication was recognized statewide and nationally for its work with 16 awards from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers ( TAMIO ) and 3CMA , the national organization of public information officers . Among them were Awards of Excellence for video production , publications , media relations , website and social media . The City ’ s annual budget video received a TAMIO Award of Honor and a 3CMA Award of Excellence . The office ’ s strategic plan was also honored with a 3CMA Award of Excellence .
Holly Mangold graduated from the Court Management Program in 2016 . She was among 45 court administrators , clerks , managers and supervisors to complete the program . Mangold is a cashier supervisor with the Arlington Municipal Court .
The Best Friends Animal Society named the Arlington Animal Shelter a ‘ There ’ s No Place Like Home ’ award winner in 2016 . The group is dedicated to ending the killing of shelter dogs and cats , and the award noted Arlington ’ s successful adoption promotions and partnerships .
Arlington Dispatch Services maintained its status of an accredited public safety communications center with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies ( CALEA ). It ’ s a distinction the City has held since 2004 . CALEA accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in public safety .
The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department received numerous state and national awards , including :
• Gold Medal Finalist as one of the top 3 parks and rec agencies in the country by the National Recreation and Park Association ;
• Communication and Media Excellence Award from the Texas Recreation and Park Society ( TRAPS );
• The TRAPS North Region also recognized Courtni Anders as the Recreation Professional of the Year and the department with the Lone Star Programming Award and the Arts and Humanities Programming Achievement Award ;
• Tree City USA Designation from the Arbor Day Foundation ;
• Playful City Designation from KaBOOM !;
• Texas Amateur Athletic Foundation ( TAAF ) honored the department with a Region of the Year Award , Regional Director of the Year for Wendy Parker , and President ’ s Award ; and ,
• A first-place award in the government category from Keep Texas Beautiful .
