Texas Rangers Ballpark Project
E
xcitement in Arlington’s world-class Entertainment District continued to grow as the future Globe Life
Field and the 302-room Live! by Loews flagship hotel began to take shape next door to the newly opened
Texas Live! dining, entertainment and hospitality district. Home Plate Update, a digital quarterly publication
created jointly by the City of Arlington and Texas Rangers, received both state and national recognition for
its work to chronicle the progress of these transformative projects through the Rangers’ Opening Day at the
new ballpark in 2020.

Globe Life Field Project Marks Milestones
The City of Arlington and the Texas
Rangers marked several significant
construction milestones on the
$1.2-billion Globe Life Field project
in FY18, including completion of the
seating bowl and the start of work
on the retractable roof. A 3,000-ton,
400-foot-tall crane – one of the largest
in the country – was contracted to
begin lifting the nearly 19,000 tons of
steel needed for the roof structure.
The Rangers also released
additional images of the 1.7-million-
square-foot ballpark, providing fans
and the public with even more views of
the field, seating bowl and roof, which
will span 240,000 square feet when
complete.
Crews worked day and night
to make the ballpark a reality. In
September, Manhattan Construction
Company and other contractors
working on the ballpark project
celebrated the completion of 1 million
construction man hours since the
September 2017 groundbreaking. The
construction workers were honored
at a luncheon attended by Rangers
players.
By the end of FY18, the City of
Arlington had made about half of the
voter-approved $500-million public
contribution toward Globe Life Field
construction.
