Repor t Texas Rangers Ballpark Project E xcitement in Arlington’s world-class Entertainment District continued to grow as the future Globe Life Field and the 302-room Live! by Loews flagship hotel began to take shape next door to the newly opened Texas Live! dining, entertainment and hospitality district. Home Plate Update, a digital quarterly publication created jointly by the City of Arlington and Texas Rangers, received both state and national recognition for its work to chronicle the progress of these transformative projects through the Rangers’ Opening Day at the new ballpark in 2020. Financial Globe Life Field Project Marks Milestones The City of Arlington and the Texas Rangers marked several significant construction milestones on the $1.2-billion Globe Life Field project in FY18, including completion of the seating bowl and the start of work on the retractable roof. A 3,000-ton, 400-foot-tall crane – one of the largest in the country – was contracted to begin lifting the nearly 19,000 tons of steel needed for the roof structure. The Rangers also released additional images of the 1.7-million- square-foot ballpark, providing fans and the public with even more views of the field, seating bowl and roof, which will span 240,000 square feet when complete. Crews worked day and night to make the ballpark a reality. In September, Manhattan Construction Company and other contractors working on the ballpark project celebrated the completion of 1 million construction man hours since the September 2017 groundbreaking. The construction workers were honored at a luncheon attended by Rangers players. By the end of FY18, t­he City of Arlington had made about half of the voter-approved $500-million public contribution toward Globe Life Field construction. PAGE 9
