• After decades of planning

City Completes New York Avenue Rebuild in East Arlington
Drivers in East Arlington celebrated
the opening of all four lanes of traffic
on New York Avenue from Abram
Street to Arkansas Lane. This nearly
$12-million project, which wrapped up
in August 2018, included new water
and sanitary sewer lines, paving and
drainage improvements, sidewalk and
curb ramp improvements, benches and
trash receptacles, pedestrian lighting,
and stamped concrete and pavers at
intersections.
Creating Smoother, Longer-Lasting Roadways
The City made significant
progress on $9-million worth of
projects in the 2017 Residential
Rebuild to
replace aging
roadways and
water and
sanitary sewer
infrastructure
in east and
central
Arlington.
Using a rating system that
measures the extent and severity
of ride comfort and pavement
distress, the City of Arlington
identifies streets most in need
of rebuilding under the annual
bond-funded Residential Rebuild
Program. Under this program,
residents on targeted streets can
look forward to new concrete
streets, improved
sidewalks, street
lights, and water
and sewer line
improvements.
• The City substantially completed
the $21.7-million 2014
Residential Rebuild Program,
which rebuilt several roads
with concrete designed to
last 50 years, brought in
water and sanitary sewer line
improvements, and addressed
standing water issues on several
streets.
• In the May 2018 election,
Arlington voters reauthorized
the quarter-cent Street
Maintenance Sales Tax for
an eight-year period. This tax
generates between $14 million
and $15 million annually for
street repairs.
