For the past 20 years, Arlington has earned national recognition
for community policing initiatives and high level of participation
in National Night Out. National Night Out involves over 37 million
people in more than 15,000 communities. In 2009, National Night
Out was observed on Oct. 6 with registered neighborhood events and
block parties throughout the city taking a united stand against crime.
In 2009, Arlington was awarded $6.1 million in federal funding
to help strengthen community oriented policing programs. It was the
third-highest amount awarded to a police agency in the state of Texas.
