Bridges to Progress
In 2009, the City of Arlington celebrated a major milestone in the
Interstate 30 Mobility Project. The I-30 project remains a high priority
for the region for improving mobility and air quality in North Texas.
High above the interstate, local, state and regional officials dedicated
the new Center Street bridge on March 23.
The new Center Street bridge opened in 2009 as the first of
three bridges to be completed as part of more than $165 million in
mobility improvements along I-30 from Ballpark Way to Cooper Street.
“In today’s economy, I’m saving money. I’m
saving time. My daughter and I are very much
environmentalists. So, riding The T means
fewer auto emissions in the air.”

State Highway 360 was constructed in different stages over the
course of several decades. When roadwork is completed near Division

Cowboys Stadium and Ranger’s Ballpark. This project includes bridge
work, railroad improvements and new pavement on the main lanes.
Efficient, effective mobility continues to be an important goal. In
2009, commuter service continued with grant
support from the Sue Pope Fund. In a partnership
with the City of Fort Worth, Arlington’s transit
program offers morning peak-period trips to Fort
Worth and evening peak-period trips back from
the Park and Ride Lot at I-20 and Park Springs.
With millions of dollars in capital
investments, the City of Arlington continues
to maximize the lifespan of its landfill while
supporting green energy-efficiency in public
projects. In 2009, the city continued its focus on
ensuring that all development and construction
activities for capital programs meet the current
and future needs of the community.
