CITY ON GT ARLIN OF Neighborhood Integrity A community of neighborhoods How do we know we’re successful? We are successful when Arlington is a place where neighborhoods are strong, safe and attractive. We measure our success by a number of key performance factors including quality health and code compliance. Superior emergency medical care and 911 services as well as housing, parks and libraries continue to be a part of our pursuit for excellence. As a city, we will continue effective programs such as Weed and Seed and Feeding Frenzy to assist us in meeting the current and future needs of our youth. “We don’t have isolated neighborhoods like we used to. National Night Out gets families out. It gets people to talking with their neighbors. It’s an opportunity to prevent crime and unite against criminal activity.” Our priority is neighborhoods - the places we call home. - Dolan Manor, Arlington resident since 1931 Accomplishments • Arlington is among the Top 100 Best Communities for Young People • Library partnerships in the community expanded to address literacy • New library branch south of I-20 services neighborhoods in southwest Arlington • Library launched live homework help and online tutorials for grades 3-12 and the Studio: Teen Art Underground opened in the basement of the Central Library • Library launched new Go-Card campaign, which guarantees that every child in grade preK-12 has a library card and free access to educational materials • Citywide “Leave No Child Inside” initiative as part of Naturally Fun Neighborhoods campaign administered by the Parks and Recreation Department • Bronze casting of a World War II soldier at Veteran’s Memorial Park to honor veterans and their families unveiled • Heroes Park dedicated to honor Arlington’s fallen police officers and firefighters • New 10.9 mile trail at Lake Arlington opened as the first paddling trail in the D/FW Metroplex • Vacant structure and duplex inspection initiatives implemented for stronger, safer neighborhoods • 10-year strategic plan to end chronic homelessness developed and implemented • Emergency Operations Center to improve technology and greater disaster preparedness and responsiveness • New ambulance service contract for quality emergency medical services • New strategies for reducing crime, addressing the challenges of neighborhoods implemented.
