Capital Investment Strategy
Building an Excellent Future
The Capital Investment Strategy
The City of Arlington, through its capital investment strategy,
has accepted the challenge: To ensure that people and goods
can efficiently move to, through and from the city, and that
public facilities are adequately maintained.
According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau, 61 percent
of working-age residents travel outside of Arlington to work
every day, contributing to auto emissions and the region’s
noncompliance attainment with federal air-quality standards.
The capital investment strategy is focused on improving
identifying transportation solutions that promote collaborative
action between the public and private sectors so that Arlington
can be an important part of the region’s clean air solutions while
serving as a economic engine. This capital investment strategy
is also dedicated to protecting property from flooding, drainage
problems and erosion, while ensuring that all development and
construction activities for capital programs meet the current
and future needs of the community.
Along the dusty railroad tracks in 1877, Arlington grew from a
small farming town site to a major metropolitan city of thriving
neighborhoods, bustling business districts and millions of
visitors and tourists.
With education, entertainment, shopping and dining
opportunities abounding, Arlington continues to be a desirable
place to raise a family, live, learn, work and play. With more
than six million residents residing in the D/FW Metroplex,
the stage has been set for Arlington to be at the center of
an economic boon. Its infrastructure needs, including its
ability to move people and goods, are at the forefront of the
challenges required to meet the current and future needs of
the community.
