Episcopal teacher named state finalist
for Presidential Award
Episcopal School of Jacksonville
announced this month that Marion
Zeiner, Episcopal’s Director of Scientific Research, has been named a state
finalist for one of the highest teaching
honors in the country: the Presidential
Award for Excellence in Mathematics
and Science Teaching.
The award is given annually to outstanding K-12 science and mathematics teachers from across the country.
The winners are selected by a panel of
distinguished scientists, mathematicians
and educators following an initial selection process completed at the state
level. Zeiner has been named one of
four finalists for the state of Florida.
Zeiner has taugh science at Episcopal since 1988 and served as the
department chair from 1999-2009.
In 2009, she was named Director of
Scientific Research for the school, and
she currently teaches honors science
seminar for students doing independent science research, honors chemistry and chemistry. She is currently
the director of the Northeast Florida
Regional Science and Engineering Fair,
and has served on numerous capacities
on curriculum, advisory council, and
planning committees for organizations
in her field. She has also presented at
the International Science and Engineering Fair and for the Florida Council for
Independent Schools many times on
curriculum and science education. She
is also a recipient of national teacher
awards from IEEE and the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

Continuing Education at Arbor Terrace
Arbor Terrace will host a continuing education presentation on
Thurs. Sept. 17 from 4:30 p.m. to
5:30 p.m. titled “Ethical Issues:
Whose Life is it Anyway?” The staff
of Arbor Terrace encounters ethical issues around the delivery of
community-based services, family
issues, medical care and personal
values and beliefs. This workshop
will explore the definitions and application of theoretical assumptions
to real life situations. Participants
will be encouraged to share case
histories and to explore alternate
approaches to conflict resolution.
Hors d’oeuvres will be served immediately following the program.
