Technology. We can’t seem to live without it now. On the downside
it means we’re at “our desks” 24/7, on the plus side, it means we are
universally connected wherever and whenever we are.
However, when it crashes it tends to leave us stranded. Struggling on
a rough ocean without our phones for oars and our laptops as a safety
boat. Which is exactly what happened to me when the Apple Mac Pro, my
trusty travel companion these past eight years finally decided to give up
the ghost. A fraught week of pacing the city looking for a tech doctor to
work miracles and perform open-hard drive surgery, and late nights re-
writing copy and projects meant that come Friday I was in need of some
quiet contemplation.
Which was why a couple of hours cocooned in the St. Regis Remède Spa
was just what was required. In a state of bliss, who needs cell phones and
deadlines, cursed laptops and tech lingo?
Having wriggled my toes into fluffy white slippers and shed my
urban uniform for a custom-made bathrobe, I followed my therapist into
the sanctuary.
I was being treated to the Warm Jade Stone Massage – a treat you can
only experience at the St. Regis here in Singapore. The St. Regis team does
not offer it anywhere else in the world. I’m feeling pampered already.
A selection of heated jade is already laid out on the bed and I can
already feel their powers mold into my back as the treatment begins. The
aroma of the essential oils blend – totally bespoke to my needs – and
the potent strokes made with the stones sends me into a Zen-like bliss
immediately. The feel of the heated stones is more like liquid than a solid
object moving up and down my body; it is a truly one-of-a-kind massage.
A mixture of deep tissue massage and focus on lymphatic areas for a
purifying objective means I’m being lulled into my lazy stupor but it’s
working its magic at the same time. An hour of emphasis on deep comfort
and relaxation is then paired with a reinvigorating wake-up.
