synchronous electric motor – that pops out an
additional 131hp – this incredibly technology is
capable of delivering zero tailpipe emissions,
whilst still putting a competitor to shame. When
the eDrive tech’ and TwinPower Turbo combine,
your pedal-to-the-metal can take you from
0-100km/h in just 4.4seconds.
Glorious – albeit slightly impractical – gulf-
wing doors swoop up into a distinctive profile.
With a long, low bonnet, sleekly ling up to a wide
body – don’t expect to fit into tiny car park gaps
with this – and air vents which pack a punch on
design as well as practicality, the i8 looks to give
many a supercar a run for their Singapore Dollar.
Packed into a sleek, Zaha Hadid-esque carbon
design, it’s light, quick and green – an eco streak
on the highway if you will.
“I had reservations about the BMW i8
having driven other hybrid or electric vehicles,”
commented Torrey. “Whilst the acceleration
in those cars was definitely impressive, I
somehow missed the ‘roar’ of a high performance
motor. However, when I switched the i8 from
standard to sports mode, my driving experience
was complete!”
Ah yes, the sports mode. With a click of
the button, the supercar growl comes in, but
otherwise you can enjoy an eerily quiet drive – in
a car with an interior that wouldn’t look out of
place at NASA. The electric motor can power the
car by itself – with a top speed of 120km/h – and
send you on a guilt-free emission-free, virtually
soundless (is the engine even on?!), all-electric
mode for up to 37km
