INANDA CLUB
Johannesburg
Modelled on the lines of the famous
Roehampton and Hurlingham Club in
London, the Inanda Club boasts the
only polo field in the heart of the city’s
CBD. Opened in 1935, the club has a
long and proud heritage, and although
it’s situated in the bustling suburb of
Sandton, members can enjoy a space
to unwind, reminiscent of country living
and rural tranquillity, even if just for the
afternoon. The club comes alive during
season (March to November) when polo
tournaments are held regularly.
THE DINING EXPERIENCE: To dine at any
of the restaurants at the Inanda Club
you have to be a member. There are two
restaurants and a bar, all of which
overlook the magnificent polo fields.
The more formal Terrace Restaurant
serves a continental menu and includes
the likes of slow braised lamb shank with
a pomegranate tabbouleh and potato
fondant, pork belly served with smoked
pork neck, parsnip custard and Granny
Smith apples. Don’t miss the infamous
Wednesday curry nights where you can
dine next to the cosy fireplace. The Mudd
Hut, located right off the polo field and
next to the club swimming pool, serves
a more relaxed menu aimed at families
and children. Salads, sandwiches and
burgers are the heroes of the menu.
BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR MEAL: If you’re
not visiting the club to watch a polo
match then you can go for riding
lessons, play some tennis, take a dip
in the pool or hit the gym.
The Terrace Restaurant is open Monday
to Sunday for breakfast, lunch and
dinner. The Mudd Hut is open every
day for lunch. www.inandaclub.co.za
Escape to the countryside for a muchneeded getaway or even a day’s outing.
Dunkeld Country & Equestrian Estate
is situated in the heart of picturesque
Dullstroom and offers a variety of
accommodation options, two restaurants
and a host of activities; not to mention
the 12 paddocks, two arenas and
20 stables which house the superbly
bred Warmblood horses.
THE DINING EXPERIENCE: The restaurant
on the Equestrian Estate, the Sporting
Horse, offers sumptuous cuisine and
breathtaking views of the countryside.
Diners can enjoy a laid-back atmosphere
in a beautifully decorated setting. Try the
generous omelettes and home-baked
bread for breakfast, while the pizza with
trout and crème fraîche for lunch is a firm
favourite. If you’re looking for a fine-dining
experience, book a table at 1883 situated
on the neighbouring country estate.
BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR MEAL: Novice or
seasoned riders alike can enjoy an outride around the estate, or don your gear
and take to the many hiking, running or
mountain biking trails. Alternatively, try
your hand at fly-fishing or even hit the
courts for a game of tennis. Or simply
take a stroll through the estate and enjoy
the beautiful scenery and admire the
majestic horses.
The Sporting Horse is open daily for
breakfast and lunch from 08h00 till
16h00. Dinner functions available on
request. www.dunkeldestate.co.za »
