DINING DUNKELD COUNTRY & EQUESTRIAN ESTATE Dullstroom INANDA CLUB Johannesburg Modelled on the lines of the famous Roehampton and Hurlingham Club in London, the Inanda Club boasts the only polo field in the heart of the city’s CBD. Opened in 1935, the club has a long and proud heritage, and although it’s situated in the bustling suburb of Sandton, members can enjoy a space to unwind, reminiscent of country living and rural tranquillity, even if just for the afternoon. The club comes alive during season (March to November) when polo tournaments are held regularly. THE DINING EXPERIENCE: To dine at any of the restaurants at the Inanda Club you have to be a member. There are two restaurants and a bar, all of which overlook the magnificent polo fields. The more formal Terrace Restaurant serves a continental menu and includes the likes of slow braised lamb shank with a pomegranate tabbouleh and potato fondant, pork belly served with smoked pork neck, parsnip custard and Granny Smith apples. Don’t miss the infamous Wednesday curry nights where you can dine next to the cosy fireplace. The Mudd Hut, located right off the polo field and next to the club swimming pool, serves a more relaxed menu aimed at families and children. Salads, sandwiches and burgers are the heroes of the menu. BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR MEAL: If you’re not visiting the club to watch a polo match then you can go for riding lessons, play some tennis, take a dip in the pool or hit the gym. The Terrace Restaurant is open Monday to Sunday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Mudd Hut is open every day for lunch. www.inandaclub.co.za Escape to the countryside for a muchneeded getaway or even a day’s outing.
