Flexible options for boarders
We understand people want different things from
a school, and our flexible approach to admitting
international students is designed to meet
individual requirements.
The vast majority of international students start at
the beginning of our school year in September (we
call it Michaelmas Term), boarding with us full time
until the end of their Year 13 year, in July, when
they’ll be aged 18.
We also welcome international students for short
term language placements – largely for the Prep
and Lower School years up to and including Year
10 (ages 7 to 15), with a small number of short
term placements in Year 12 (age 16-17). Short-term
means either one, two or three terms.
We offer a one-year GCSE option in Year 11
(age 15-16), when we create a bespoke GCSE
programme, usually including at least five full
time GCSE courses. The entry requirements are
more challenging for this course as the academic
expectation here is significant.
Fewer and fewer schools are offering short term
placements now. We have a limited number of
places available within each year group, but an
early application will generally be progressed,
particularly for Prep School places and Senior
School Years 7-9.
Our boarding houses
Pocklington School’s care for international students
goes well beyond the classroom. They become
‘our own’ and we work hard to make sure each one
is happy, and on the right pathway to fulfil their
potential. We have four boarding houses: Dolman
House (boys aged 7-14); Orchard House (girls
aged 7–15); Faircote House (girls aged 15-18) and
Fenwick Smith House (boys aged 14-18). All reflect
our international outlook, with UK-based and
international boarders sharing rooms and facilities.
