It took a lot of guts because I had tried out for a few other
fashion shows and I did not get them. My grandmother
passed away and two days later I received an email from
Project Runway to inform me that the application was
open to apply. At first I ignored the email and talked
about it with my cousin. She reminded me that this was
something that my grandmother always wanted for me.
How long did it take for you to hear back from
Project Runway and what was that call like?
It took a couple of months and it was a process. They
just want to find out if you are fit for this and that you are
not going to quit in mid season. I mean I had to be ready
to leave my life and put everything on the line. Getting
that call made me feel like finally someone believed in
me and I felt like my grandmother had a lot to do with my
process. I can’t put into words how I felt being cho sen
for Project Runway, it still brings me to tears.
In reference to the “Mean Girls” episode, that
episode undid many of us. We understand this
is a competition, but this also brought out some
key points about the industry. Looking back
what did you learn from that experience?
