PLUS MODEL MAGAZINE February 2016 Issue | Page 88

This is why most plus size/curve agency boards have five white models for every one model of color. This is why brands are often responding to demands for size diversity with visibly plus size, white models. The minimized opportunity for models of color is frustrating and it is truly upsetting to see the lack of representation for the customers. It is so important that all women feel represented. The plus size fashion industry is what it is today because we felt secluded and ignored by mainstream fashion. We demanded to be heard, seen and represented. We must commit to demanding that same respect and attention for ALL bodies. Although I celebrate the continued growth and success of the plus size fashion industry, we have a lot more work to do. I want to see true diversity and equal representation for all sizes, races, ages, and body shapes! You are very fashion forward. What trends are you most excited about right now? I think metallics are about to be big this spring! I need to add some stand out metallic dresses and accessories to my closet ASAP! What tips would you give to aspiring models about taking their modeling career to the next level? The first thing I always tell aspiring models is to do your research! Know what is expected of you as a model. It takes a lot of time and money to get started. A great tip is to take a look at the agency boards to see what type of images and which photographers they prefer. Submitting images that will allow the agents to envision you as a part of their board can give you that extra edge!
