PLUS MODEL MAGAZINE February 2015 Issue | Page 18

letter from the editor madeline jones | editor-in-chief PLUS Model Magazine released it’s first Black Issue in 2014... 95% of the feedback was extremely positive with 5% undecided or not happy with the issue. When an issue like this is put together, the purpose is to celebrate Black women in our industry (models, entertainers, designers, etc.) and evaluate the amount of diversity that is still needed. Our purpose is not to further separate a group of individuals, but rather embrace and acknowledge the truth about the lack of diversity while celebrating progress. This year we decided to rename the Black Issue - “The LOVE issue” in order to promote a positive message of diversity in the plus size industry, while celebrating the progress we are making. This year we celebrate the success of three women with STAR POWER, Nicci Gilbert (Brownstone and R&B Divas), Tanisha Thomas (Bad Girls Club) and Courtney of Rum + Coke. These three women have opened up doors and created opportunities that were not readily available. Their resilience is admirable and have earned them a loyal following that continues to encourage and support their every move.
